    Hire Me

You can Hire Me to work on your project, or for a fixed term, or you can put me on retainer to provide ongoing Service and Support. I can work for you in person or remotely.

    Go-To-Market Support

My Service and Support approach puts all the power in your hands, giving you the flexibility to adjust the project scope and speed as you go, while preventing vendor lock-in.

    01. As close to now as possible

Sometimes speed is more important than coaching internal employees. I get it. There are always trade-offs when building ventures, and you probably want the best possible leader to lead your team at the critical time.

You might have tried working with internal project managers, but they didn’t get why you needed to talk to customers, or you might have hired freelancers but couldn’t find one who could work outside a narrow area of expertise.

    02. Serial entrepreneur

What you need is someone who is good at writing Business Case, customer investigation and development, business analysis, risk analysis, experiment design, and business modelling.

Someone who spots gaps in the market and comes up with non-obvious designs. Someone who can translate designs into low cost testable experiments, and finally into market ready solutions.

    03. Supportive team member

I know it’s not easy to find someone who can not only give a presentation about all of the above, but also execute it while leading the team.

I fit that profile and have been working as a contractor for nearly 20 years for individuals, corporates, multinationals, and governments. I have gone through the solution design process dozens of times.

    04. Saves you loads of time and money

With my flexible Service and Support approach you can contract me to work as a co-entrepreneur who joins your team 1-4 days per week to keep everyone focused.

I bring fresh energy and perspective to your venture. Most of the time, I will steer the validation of critical business assumptions in the first months of your new corporate venture. Plus, I bring 1900+ documents with me.

    RESULTS

Strengthen Your Team With My Innovation Skills

Launching a new product or service in a fast-changing environment, or new region, or context is always a risky venture.

An effective go-to-market strategy goes beyond social media, Ad-campaigns, and setting up a sales force. Sure, these are critical elements of your launch, but to increase your commercial success; we first define the benefits you expect from your innovation strategy, then apply an innovation matrix to identify the most suitable program to activate.

    Focus on Customer

Who’s your customer? What is their current situation? What could you improve upon to help them?

    See Gaps in the Market

Is there really an opportunity in the market or are you chasing another unvalidated idea?

    Non-Obvious Solutions

The first idea that comes to mind is unlikely to be the best one. Creativity is crucial in this process.

    Testable Hypotheses

Translating ideas into testable hypotheses. What are the most critical assumptions about the solution?

    Experiment Design

Using the smallest amount of time and money we conduct experiment to validate or invalidate ideas.

    Business Modelling

What’s a smart way to capture some of the value you are creating to make this initiative worth pursuing?

    Workflow to Hire Me

First step is to read my How to Guides. I wrote them to give you an idea of how I can help you. Next step is Call or Text. You can also Book a Call Back. When you want to Hire Me, we will need to sign Privacy and Non-Disclosure docs, plus other project specific documents. Then we agree on and sign a Client Engagement Contract. After that we are good to go.

    Process

    Read My How to Guides

There is loads of useful information in my How to Guides. They each follow a logical step-by-step path (just like this section). They will give you a good head start.

Next check out my Who is? page. That provides information about my background. I've provided a "Work History Timeline", so you can get an understanding about my career progression up to this point. I've also outlined some of the projects I've worked on over the years.

You might see that I'm all about understanding, leading, coaching, training. When you put me in a team and give the team the freedom to be Lean & Agile, we will deliver the products, services, solutions that you need.

The purpose of these pages is to give you an overview of my history, my approach, and my capabilities, so that you can begin to understand if I will be a good fit for your project or not. If I am, then you will be more informed when you - Call or Text or Book a Call Back.

From my perspective, this entire website is all about helping you understand me - so that I can do the best job for you.

    Process

    Book a Call Back

I built an online booking system for potential and current clients to book a time for me to call them back. Why this system? I'm a hopeless multitasker. I do one thing at a time, when I've finished it, then I do the next thing.

Also - if you have booked me for a project and are paying for my time, you don't want me distracted by client calls when I should be 100% focused on your project.

I schedule my work week and update my call back booking times for days and times when I can devote 100% of my attention to our conversation.

Being an Investigator / Analyst I takes loads of notes during conversations, obviously I can't do that if a client calls and I'm driving.

There are of course exceptions. For example, I host and manage WordPress sites. If a site goes down or breaks because of an update, or has a security breach, then my clients can Call or Text and I'll jump right on it. See below on Time Tracking to get an idea of how I manage these exceptions.

    Process

    Complete e-Form

Once you've Booked a Call Back. you'll receive an automated email confirming the booking, and also a link to an e-Form.

This form is helpful for us both because I'll ask you a heap of "general" questions about your project. I'm not looking for specific details, but it gives me an idea of your needs and time frames. It will take you about 3 minutes to complete.

I prepare for every call back at about 2:1 (30 minutes prep for a 15-minute call). This way I have everything I need ready to go when we talk. Because of preparation a 15-minute Call Back is in total about 45 minutes of my time.

The e-Form is an essential part of that preparation. That way I'm on point and our call is productive.

    Process

    During Your Call Back

What to expect during the Call Back? The easiest way to think about it is to break it down into "Three Five Minute Sections".

    1) Get to Know: We will talk about your project and work out if I can help. You'll no doubt have a heap of questions for me.

    2) Brainstorm: We can bounce ideas, see what might work, what might not work. One thing I have never been short of in life is ideas.

    3) Sketch Out Path Forward: If it's a good fit then we can talk about time frames and schedules, and discuss what Hiring Me involves.

NOTE: The first Call Back is free of charge. It might take you longer to work out if you want me on your team. You can book additional or longer call backs. They come at a cost - $15.00 NZD per 15 Minute Call Back. Time is money!

    Process

    You Can Hire Me

I work for clients Monday - Thursday. I work 10 hour days.

Friday is my business Admin and preferred Call Back day. I only work on Saturday / Sunday for clients if I must respond to an emergency. I'm trying to get that elusive work/life balance.

NOTE: I have standing long-term support and service contracts with corporate and Government clients. For one week every month (and as required) I am contractually obligated to prioritise their needs. We can discuss that when you Call or during your Call Back.

    Process

    Time Tracking

I use ZOHO Accounting Software to track my time and manage my accounts. ZOHO is my 'accounting team'. When you Book a Call Back, I set that up as a project and track that time as 'unbillable' in ZOHO.

Client Portal: When you Hire Me to work on your project, I track my time using ZOHO. Because ZOHO has the option for a 'client portal' you can log in and check/audit my hours worked and weigh my productivity for further analysis.

Cash-Flow is King: Yours and mine. I'm an individual Business Consultant, I have no desire to be a debt collector and chase companies for money. In the past I've had to do it, and it is the only thing in life that I truly hate.

Shared Risk Model: As a knowledge worker I can’t ‘repossess’ my product or service. Once you have my knowledge it’s yours for life. At the beginning of a project, I estimate the amount of time I expect it will take me to deliver what you want.

My payment terms are 50% at the beginning, then the remaining 50% at the halfway point. At the halfway point we review my performance, if you are happy, then the remaining 50% is paid, and I continue working for you.

NOTE: We can negotiate these terms for projects longer than 3 months, for fixed term projects, or for ongoing service and support.

    Process

    We Complete the Necessary Paperwork

Once you have decided to Hired Me, you will receive an email containing some documents signed by me, that you must then sign and send back to me.

Standard Documents: Non-Disclosure. Privacy. Non-Compete. Client Engagement. Project Outline.

Project Specific Documents: Website Development Agreements, Multimedia, Technology Licensing Agreement, Source Code Trust, Technology Transfer, Assignment of All Rights in Computer Software, Non-Disclosure Beta Tester.

    Process

I Get Started Working on Your Project

Once all the Standard and Project Specific Documents are signed, and the first 50% payment is cleared - then I get to work for you.

Clients want me back. I've been doing this work for nearly 20 years, there is not much I haven't done. I'm a generalist / entrepreneur that over time has become good at all those individual specialised things that deliver a successful project or build a solid business.

I do a lot of things and I aim to do them all very well. My Granddad taught me, "Get organised. Do it once. Do it right." Clients normally say - "Jared is super useful, what else can we get him to do?"

Investigation & Analysis - gives me the ability to solve complex problems.

Psychology, Training, Sales, & Marketing - these skills give me the ability to understand people, and to effectively communicate designs and solutions to clients and stakeholders.

Microsoft and WordPress - qualifications and knowledge give me the ability to build solutions, or work closely with developers, and bridge the gap between IT and Business.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Some answers to questions that pass through peoples minds when they read my website. No doubt, you will have more questions specific to your project or business, so please Call or Text or Book a Call Back

    01. Is my privacy and information secure?

Absolutely. We begin with an 'empty' document template that is 80% complete and add your relevant information to it. Each client engagement starts with documents that have never been used before.

    02. What is the process to get started?

Read my How to Guides, then Call, Text or Book a Call Back. During that call I can understand your project and you can work out if I’m a good fit for your team and business.

If so, then you can Hire Me, then we sign the privacy documents and non-disclosure document and client engagement contract. Those documents protect us both. Then we get started on whatever your project involves.

    03. What is your background and qualifications?

I am a Government Licensed Private Investigator specialising in Factual Investigation. I contract to clients as an Investigator, Field Agent, Business Analyst, Risk Analyst, and WordPress Nerd.

I currently have standing service and support contracts with Corporate and Government clients (references available).

I am a life-long learner. I have two papers left to finish an Advanced Diploma in Psychology (Logotherapy / Meaning Centred Therapy), and four papers to finish a Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) exam prep course.

I have completed Diplomas in Financial Services (Loss Adjusting), Occupational Health & Safety, Government Fraud Control, Government Fraud Investigation, Security & Risk Management. I have finished 9 Certificate IV qualifications including, Government Statutory Compliance, Workplace Training & Assessment.

I became a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) in 2003.

Since 2002 I have worked as an Investigator / Analyst on dozens of projects in New Zealand and Australia.

    04. Why are the not any testimonials on your website?

I have been building websites since 2003 back when I used Microsoft Front Page to write HTML code. I think testimonials on websites are nonsense. I never read them.

If you want testimonials then Call, Text, or Book a Call Back, and I'll give you the contact details of people I have been working with for years. You can call them directly, and they will tell you about me, my capabilities, and about my limitations.

    05. Why cant I find you on social media?

I'm an Investigator and Analyst, I perform sensitive work for clients. Privacy and discretion are paramount. Nothing I do needs to be on any form of social media.

Plus, I understand what Social Media companies do with your data, and I’m not cool with my data being harvested and sold, just so my thoughts and opinions can then be manipulated.

I build websites so I can be found online within in an online environment that I control 100%.

If you contract me to build a website for you then I am happy to develop an overall social media strategy for you.
